Managers often misunderstand what makes the inspired leader. Here are five common myths:

1. Everyone can be a leader. Not true. Self-esteem and reliability are essential for leadership and not everyone has (or seeks to develop them). Individuals also have to be leaders and many talented employees have no desire to take responsibility. Some may draw attention to interest, but they are primarily focused on the benefits at the expense of them. Others choose to spend more time for their families and private lives.

2. Leaders succeed companies. Not always. If results were always a matter of good leadership, it would be easy to choose leaders. In any case, the best strategy would be to find people in the most successful companies. It's not that simple.

Businesses in simple industries can often compete with competitive management rather than good leadership. At the same time, some companies that are good companies do not necessarily produce results, especially in the short term.

3. The top leaders are leaders. Not necessary. One of the persistent misconceptions is that people in management positions are leaders. But people who make it to the top may have done it because of political concern, not necessarily because of true leaders of quality. Actual leaders are found worldwide, from the Commission in the shop floor.

By definition, leaders are simply people who have followers and status does not have much to do with this. Successful military institutions such as the US Navy have long realized the importance of developing leaders through the organization.

4. Leaders are great coaches. Rarely. All the housing industry has blown around the faith that good leaders bought to be good coaches. But this thought describes one person who can encourage the soldiers and apply technical skills.

It is, of course, possible for leaders to be great coaches, but we only see this sometimes. More typical are leaders such as Steve Jobs, whose characteristic strength lies in the ability to raise others with vision, rather than training talent.

5. Women make better leaders than men. Depending on the various. One popular myth asserts that women are intensive and nurturing, so they make more natural leaders. But are women competitive enough to make it mostly representative of this stereotype, or are they unusual men regardless of gender? Are we able to categorize our own stereotypes?

Can we judge leaders on qualities, talents and achievements? Are our beliefs colored by our foreseeable things about looks, education and class? If we know these assumptions and opinions, we might be better off choosing those who want to lead us.
